**Chennai, December 3, 2024** – Seven people died in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, after a landslide caused by heavy rains resulted in a large boulder crashing onto their house. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on December 1st, in VOC Nagar. Rescue efforts involving 40 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were unsuccessful in saving the victims.

The deceased were identified as Rajkumar, Meena (27), R. Gowtham (9), R. Iniya (5), S. Ramya (7), M. Vinothini (14), and S. Maha (7).

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his condolences and announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the families of each victim. This tragedy comes amidst ongoing concerns about Cyclone Fengal, which has already caused significant damage across the state. The Chief Minister previously reported 12 deaths and flooding across 2.11 lakh hectares of farmland due to the cyclone.
