Tue Dec 03 09:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Ashtabula Schools Closed Due to Roof Damage from Record Snowfall
**Ashtabula, OH** – Ashtabula Area City Schools (AACS) announced the closure of all schools on Tuesday, December 5th, due to a Level 3 snow emergency and widespread damage caused by record snowfall. The closure follows a pre-planned holiday closure on Monday, December 4th.
Over three feet of lake-effect snow has fallen in Ashtabula County since Thanksgiving, resulting in significant roof damage at Lakeside High School. The Ashtabula Fire Department responded on Sunday to assist with repairs. Superintendent Lisa Newsome cited safety concerns for students and faculty as the reason for the Tuesday closure, announcing the postponement of all athletic practices and contests until further notice.
AACS shared the announcement via Facebook, including an audio message from Superintendent Newsome with additional details. The district emphasized that the decision to close schools was made to ensure the safety of students and staff in light of the ongoing severe weather and building damage. Several Northeast Ohio counties remain under weather warnings.
