Tue Dec 03 04:11:11 UTC 2024: ## Akali Dal Chief Sukhbir Badal Ordered to Clean Bathrooms as Punishment

**Amritsar, Punjab:** Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal has been ordered to clean bathrooms as punishment by the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism. Badal, who appeared before the Akal Takht in a wheelchair on Monday, was found guilty on multiple charges.

The Akal Takht accused Badal of showing leniency towards Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, and of withdrawing complaints instead of facing punishment regarding a clothing controversy. Further accusations included negligence in securing justice for victims of the 2012 Bargari sacrilege incident and the appointment of Sumedh Saini as Punjab DGP.

During the hearing, Badal and other accused were asked to answer questions with a simple “yes” or “no.” Badal reportedly answered “yes” to all questions, admitting his mistakes before the Panj Singh Sahib. Another accused, Prem Singh Chandumajra, denied the accusations, prompting the Akal Takht to reprimand him.

The punishment includes one hour of bathroom cleaning and one hour of washing utensils at a community kitchen (Langar). The Akal Takht also ordered Badal to wear a placard around his neck. The Jathedar (head priest) reportedly presented newspaper clippings detailing the accusations during the proceedings, questioning Badal’s attempts to evade responsibility.
