**Belagavi, Karnataka – December 3, 2024** – The city of Belagavi is gearing up to commemorate the centenary of the 1924 Indian National Congress session, presided over by Mahatma Gandhi. A grand celebration, spanning December 26th and 27th, is planned, featuring a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting and a large public gathering.
The celebrations, approved by a committee chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, will include the release of a commemorative stamp. A year-long program titled “Gandhi Bharata” will also be launched. Belagavi city will be adorned with extensive light displays, mirroring the scale of the Mysuru Dasara festival.
Further plans include the development of the Veera Soudha, the historical site of the 1924 session, with the addition of a library and a Gandhi statue. Memorial pillars will be erected at 120 locations across Karnataka that Gandhi visited. A Kannada-dubbed version of Richard Attenborough’s film “Gandhi” will be released, and an art gallery showcasing the 1924 session and the freedom movement will be established at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi. These initiatives aim to honor Gandhi’s legacy and the historical significance of the 1924 Congress session.
