Tue Dec 03 16:12:23 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka’s Revenue Collection Falls Short of Targets
**Bengaluru, December 3, 2024** – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed concern over the state’s revenue collection shortfall on Tuesday, following a review of key revenue-generating departments. While the state achieved 94% of its commercial tax target (₹53,103 crore out of ₹56,317 crore) by November 2024, significant shortfalls were noted in other sectors.
The Commercial Taxes Department, despite achieving a strong 94% of its target to date, still faces a significant challenge of meeting its ₹84,475 crore fiscal year target. Collection was particularly low in the Mysuru and Malnad regions. The Chief Minister directed officials to intensify efforts, particularly in Bengaluru, to plug revenue leakages and meet the targets. He highlighted Karnataka’s second-place ranking in GST collection (₹13,722 crore by November 30th), urging officials to strive for higher revenue.
However, the Excise Department only achieved 61.26% of its target (₹23,600 crore out of ₹38,525 crore), while the Stamps and Registration Department reached 58% (₹15,160.97 crore out of ₹26,000 crore). The Mines and Geology Department also fell significantly short, collecting ₹4,862 crore against a target of ₹9,000 crore.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to address bottlenecks in the e-kata system and fill vacancies within the Excise Department. He emphasized the need for increased vigilance and efficiency across all departments to improve revenue generation in the remaining months of the fiscal year.
