Mon Dec 02 01:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Delay in Winter’s Arrival: India’s North Faces Unusually Warm December

**NEW DELHI, INDIA** – North India continues to experience unusually warm temperatures for December, with minimum temperatures remaining significantly above normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed this to the lack of significant Western Disturbances in the northern hills. While November also saw above-average temperatures, the delay in the onset of winter has prompted concern.

The IMD predicts a noticeable drop in temperatures only after next week, contingent upon the activation of Western Disturbances in the Himalayan region. Until then, the milder weather will persist.

Regional reports highlight varying conditions: Punjab is experiencing its lowest temperatures of the season in Jalandhar, alongside dense fog warnings for several districts. Uttarakhand is experiencing frost in the mountainous areas and dense fog in the plains, with updates on potential rain and snowfall pending. However, the IMD offers a glimmer of hope for smog-affected areas, predicting a decrease in temperatures and subsequent relief from smog in Uttar Pradesh and other affected states.
