**Puducherry, December 1, 2024** – The Indian Army launched a major rescue operation in Puducherry on Sunday, saving approximately 600 residents stranded by severe flooding in the wake of Cyclone Fengal. A Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) team from the Chennai Garrison Battalion, led by Major Ajay Sangwan, responded to a request from the Collector.

The operation focused on Krishna Nagar, Kuber Nagar, and Jiva Nagar, where water levels reached five feet in some areas, inundating approximately 500 homes. The 69-member army team, comprising one officer, six junior commissioned officers, and 62 other ranks, traveled overnight from Chennai to assist. The rescue efforts were carried out in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and local authorities.
