**Bengaluru, Karnataka, December 2, 2024** – Bengaluru is grappling with severe flooding and widespread disruption caused by torrential rains attributed to Cyclone Fengal. The city received 19 mm of rainfall by Sunday evening, with downpours continuing into Monday morning. This has led to significant waterlogging across the city, including major roads like the Outer Ring Road, Bannerghatta Road, and Kanakapura Road. The inundation has caused major traffic jams, particularly impacting commuters returning from the weekend. One resident reported a journey that usually takes less than an hour took over five hours due to the conditions.

The heavy rain has also resulted in fallen trees in several areas, including Jayanagara 4th block and Malleshwaram. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has reported three fallen trees and one fallen branch, with flood mitigation teams on standby. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath had already directed officials to prepare for potential flooding on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature in Bengaluru dropped to 20.4 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees below normal. Schools and colleges have been closed in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts, with Mandya district also declaring a holiday for schools and pre-university colleges. However, degree college examinations in Chamarajanagar will proceed as scheduled. Mandya district plans to make up for the lost school day with a full Saturday of classes. The situation remains precarious, with residents in low-lying areas expressing concerns about further flooding.
