**New Delhi, December 1, 2024** – A 35-year-old man, Mohd. Adil, was arrested following a shootout in east Delhi’s Yamuna Khadar on Saturday. Adil, accused of attacking a head constable with a sharp weapon, sustained a chest wound during the exchange of fire and is currently in stable condition at GTB Hospital.
The incident stemmed from an assault on Head Constable Azad Akhtar the previous day. Adil, along with his brother and four others, attacked Akhtar at a police booth in New Usmanpur, causing serious injuries. Akhtar has since been discharged from the hospital.
Police described Adil as a repeat offender with 27 prior criminal cases, including murder, robbery, and Arms Act violations. He was flagged as a “Bad Character” by the New Usmanpur police station. When confronted, Adil allegedly opened fire, prompting police to return fire, resulting in his injury. The search for the remaining five suspects is ongoing.
