**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Indian banks will be closed for a total of 17 days in December 2024, due to a combination of festival holidays, second and fourth Saturdays, and Sundays, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The RBI has declared specific dates as bank holidays for various festivals, while regional festivals will result in closures for banks in those specific states or regions. All banks will be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays throughout December.

While physical bank branches will be closed on these days, online banking and other digital financial services will remain operational as usual. The full list of bank holidays for December will be announced by the RBI shortly.

Meanwhile, a proposal for a five-day work week for bank employees, which would mean all Saturdays becoming bank holidays, is reportedly nearing final approval from the Ministry of Finance. If approved, this change would significantly alter the bank holiday calendar in the future.
