Sun Dec 01 01:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Cyclone Phethai’s Indirect Impact Brings Rain and Rising Temperatures to West Bengal

**Kolkata, India -** The peripheral effects of Cyclone Phethai are being felt in West Bengal, bringing a mix of rain and unexpectedly warmer temperatures. Light to moderate rainfall began in several South Bengal districts late Friday night and continued into Saturday morning. While Kolkata has experienced cloudy skies and wind, heavier rain is anticipated in the coastal districts, potentially leading to flooding. The cyclone’s influence has resulted in a sudden temperature rise across the state, diminishing the recent cold spell.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the low-pressure system has intensified into Cyclone Phethai and is expected to make landfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Saturday. While West Bengal is not directly in the path of the cyclone, its indirect impact is evident in the changing weather patterns. The IMD forecasts rain, accompanied by strong winds, in East and West Medinipur, and North and South 24 Parganas from Saturday to Monday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Meanwhile, a dense fog warning has been issued for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
