Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu – In a significant breakthrough, Virudhunagar district police have solved the 2022 double murder of an elderly couple in Rajapalayam. The arrest of T. Muthukumar (35), initially apprehended for the November 23rd murder of an elderly woman, led to the confession and subsequent arrests of his accomplices, G. Sangiliyandi (43) and M. Satheesh (34).

Police Superintendent D. Kannan stated that the same modus operandi was used in both cases: the suspects gained entry under the guise of needing water and then strangled their victims. In the 2022 case, Rajagopal (75) and Gurupackiam (68) were found dead in their home on July 16th, 2022. The suspects stole over 15 sovereigns of gold from the woman.

Satheesh, who owns a cellphone shop, allegedly provided information about the couple’s vulnerability and the woman’s jewelry. Muthukumar and Sangiliyandi carried out the murders while Satheesh acted as a lookout, strategically choosing a route without CCTV cameras. Following Gurupackiam’s strangulation, Rajagopal was bludgeoned and then strangled.

Police are currently pursuing further investigations.
