Sun Dec 01 01:20:00 UTC 2024: ## West Bengal Sees Winter’s Arrival Delayed by Cyclonic Disturbances

**Kolkata, [Date]:** Winter’s advance in West Bengal has been significantly hampered this December by a confluence of western disturbances, cyclones, and fog, according to the Alipore Meteorological Department. While November saw a steady drop in temperatures, December’s onset has been delayed.

The cyclone, Fenjal, though weakened after making landfall, continues to influence weather patterns. Coastal districts experienced light rainfall Saturday and a slight chance remains for Sunday, particularly in East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, and South 24 Parganas. The entire south Bengal region can expect partly cloudy skies and a slight chance of light rain. North Bengal may see light fog in the mornings, primarily in Darjeeling and North Dinajpur, with some possibility in Jalpaiguri, South Dinajpur, and Malda. However, no heavy fog warnings are currently in place.

Temperatures have remained relatively stable, with a slight drop expected in the coming days. The Met Department forecasts a more significant temperature decrease by the end of the week, signaling the potential arrival of a colder spell.

Kolkata experienced partly cloudy skies with a slight drop in night temperature, though it remains above normal. Daytime temperatures were around 7 degrees Celsius below normal due to cloudy conditions and rain. The Alipore Meteorological Department predicts a gradual temperature decrease in the coming days, with a return to colder conditions expected by the end of the week. Kolkata’s minimum temperature on Sunday was 19.1°C, and the maximum was 22°C on Saturday. Relative humidity ranged between 68% and 91%.
