Fri Nov 29 23:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Irish Election Results Indicate Hung Parliament, Coalition Likely

**DUBLIN, IRELAND (November 30, 2024)** — Ireland’s general election has resulted in a near-three-way tie between the three largest parties, according to an exit poll released Friday night. The poll suggests a hung parliament and the likely formation of another coalition government.

Fine Gael, a centre-right party, received the first-choice votes of 21% of voters, closely followed by Sinn Fein (21.1%), a left-of-centre opposition party, and Fianna Fail (19.5%), another centre-right party and Fine Gael’s current coalition partner. The Ipsos B&A poll surveyed 5,018 voters and has a margin of error of ±1.4 percentage points.

While the exit poll provides an initial indication, the final results will not be known until the counting of ballots is completed, a process expected to take several hours or even days. The election marks a test of whether Ireland will follow the global trend of voters ousting incumbent governments amid ongoing economic and international challenges.
