**BHUBANESWAR, ODISHA** – Odisha police have arrested six individuals, including a Bihar couple, for the alleged sale of their four-year-old daughter to a childless couple in Pipili for ₹40,000. The child has been rescued.
The incident came to light following a complaint filed by a Bhubaneswar resident who suspected his tenants, the Bihar couple, of selling their daughter. Police investigations confirmed the sale, with both the buying and selling couples admitting to the transaction. Two alleged middlemen were also apprehended.
The girl’s parents, who work as daily laborers, reportedly sold their daughter due to financial hardship. Childline director Benudhar Senapati confirmed that the girl is the father’s child from a previous marriage. All six individuals are currently in police custody.
