Wed Nov 27 06:37:09 UTC 2024: ## Seoul Suffers Worst November Snowstorm in 52 Years
**SEOUL, South Korea (November 27, 2024)** – A historic snowstorm has crippled South Korea’s capital, Seoul, causing widespread disruption and claiming at least one life. The heaviest November snowfall in 52 years, reaching 20 centimeters (7.8 inches) in northern Seoul, grounded hundreds of flights, paralyzed commuter traffic, and led to numerous accidents.
The Korea Meteorological Administration confirmed this as the most severe November snowstorm Seoul has seen since 1972. A five-vehicle accident in Hongcheon resulted in one fatality and four injuries, according to Yonhap news agency. Snowfall across the country ranged from 10 to 23 centimeters (3.9 to 9 inches), affecting central, eastern, and southwestern regions.
Over 220 flights were canceled or delayed nationwide, and approximately 90 ferries were ordered to remain in port. Hundreds of hiking trails were closed due to safety concerns. Icy roads caused significant delays during the morning commute in Seoul, while emergency services dealt with fallen trees and other debris.
President Yoon Suk Yeol has directed relevant ministries to deploy all available resources to minimize further disruption and ensure public safety. The government is also focused on disseminating timely weather and traffic updates to the public. The snow is expected to continue in most areas until Thursday noon.
