**Kolkata, Nov 26, 2024** – The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged protests on Tuesday demanding the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a Hindu community leader arrested in Bangladesh. The protests, led by Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, took place outside the state assembly in Kolkata.
Adhikari announced that BJP MLAs will besiege the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission on Wednesday. He also stated that a larger march, joined by the Hindu Jagaran Manch, will proceed to the commission on Thursday. Further protests are planned if Das remains imprisoned.
The BJP issued a press statement urging the Bangladeshi government to release Das, drop all charges against him, and ensure the safety of Hindus and their temples in Bangladesh. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) also issued a statement calling on the Indian government to intervene. India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed “deep concern” over the arrest and denial of bail.
Das, a prominent religious leader with a significant following in Bangladesh, was arrested in Dhaka on Monday. His arrest has sparked protests within Bangladesh.
