Tue Nov 26 17:36:57 UTC 2024: ## 26/11 Mumbai Attacks: 16 Years On, Nation Remembers Victims

**Mumbai, India –** Sixteen years ago today, on November 26th, 2008, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks shook Mumbai, leaving an enduring scar on the city and the nation. The attacks, carried out by members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed the lives of 166 people, including security personnel, and injured over 300. Prominent targets included Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station, the Oberoi Trident and Taj Mahal Palace hotels, and Nariman House Jewish community center.

Among the victims was Jasmeen, the daughter of former ITBP IG (then DIG) M.S. Bhurji. Remarkably, despite this personal tragedy, Bhurji was later entrusted with the security of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving attacker, during his imprisonment. Bhurji ensured Kasab’s security remained uncompromised until his execution, stating that Kasab’s hanging served as a lesson for those who would commit similar acts of violence. The anniversary serves as a solemn reminder of the devastating attacks and the enduring strength of the human spirit in the face of terror.
