**Mumbai, India –** Mahindra & Mahindra has launched its first ground-up battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the Mahindra BE 6e and the Mahindra XEV 9e, marking a significant step into the Indian electric vehicle market. Built on the company’s new INGLO platform, these SUVs will be available for booking in late January 2025, with deliveries beginning in late February 2025.
The base model BE 6e is priced at ₹18.90 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), while the base XEV 9e starts at ₹21.90 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). Indicative on-road prices in Chennai are approximately ₹20.36 lakh for the BE 6e and ₹23.59 lakh for the XEV 9e. A full price list will be released at a later date.
The BE 6e is a compact SUV (4,371mm long), while the XEV 9e is larger (4,789mm). Both boast impressive ground clearance (207mm overall, with slightly higher battery clearance) and ample cargo space; the XEV 9e offers a 663-liter boot and 150-liter frunk, compared to the BE 6e’s 455-liter boot and 45-liter frunk.
Powering both SUVs is a 210kW, 380Nm (maximum spec) 3-in-1 powertrain. They accelerate from 0-100kmph in 6.7 seconds (BE 6e) and 6.8 seconds (XEV 9e). Drivers can choose between Range, Everyday, and Race driving modes.
Mahindra offers two battery pack options: 59kWh and 79kWh, both using LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry and boasting a lifetime warranty for the first owner. The 79kWh pack provides an ARAI-certified range of 682km for the BE 6e and 656km for the XEV 9e (MIDC phase 1 + 2). Mahindra claims a range exceeding 500km in metro cities with AC on. Fast charging from 20% to 80% takes just 20 minutes with a 175kW DC charger.
Technological highlights include a twin-screen setup for the BE 6e and a triple-screen setup for the XEV 9e, both featuring illuminated two-spoke steering wheels. Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) Level 2+, a Secure 360 safety system, and AutoPark are standard. The XEV 9e also boasts a premium Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos. Mahindra’s Artificial Intelligence Architecture (MAIA) integrates various technologies, including drive assist, connected car features, and cybersecurity. Both SUVs feature seven airbags and are designed to achieve a five-star safety rating.
