Tue Nov 26 21:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Kraven the Hunter Faces Box Office Uncertainty After Multiple Delays
**Los Angeles, CA** – Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter,” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, finally claws its way to theaters this December after a series of significant delays. Originally slated for January 2023, the film’s release has been pushed back multiple times, raising concerns about its potential box office performance.
The film, directed by J.C. Chandor, is the latest in Sony’s Spider-Man villain origin story franchise, notable for its absence of Spider-Man himself. The repeated delays, however, may have significantly diminished the film’s marketing momentum. Initially, the R-rating was a potential draw, but with the success of “Deadpool & Wolverine” and the underperformance of “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the novelty has worn off, potentially leading to audience fatigue.
Box office analysts predict a disappointing opening weekend for “Kraven the Hunter,” estimating a gross in the $20-$25 million range domestically. This would place it among the lowest-performing films in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, even potentially underperforming the opening weekend of “Venom: The Last Dance.” The film’s overall domestic run could even fall short of that film’s total gross.
Adding to the challenge, “Kraven the Hunter” shares its opening weekend with Warner Bros.’ “Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” which is also projected to have a weak debut. Both films face stiff competition from holdovers “Wicked Part 1” and “Moana 2,” which are showing strong pre-sales. While “Kraven the Hunter” might narrowly outperform “Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” its overall prospects remain uncertain given the crowded marketplace and the impact of its numerous release date postponements.
