**CHENNAI, November 27, 2024** – Members of the Unorganized Workers’ Federation staged a demonstration in Chennai on Tuesday, urging the state government to pressure the Union government to withdraw recently implemented labour codes. The protest, led by state secretary R. Leelavathi, followed a statewide awareness campaign highlighting the rights of unorganized workers.
The Federation alleges that the four new labour codes, which replaced over 44 Central Acts, violate the rights of unorganized sector workers. They further demand the state government pass a resolution to protect the 36 existing welfare boards serving these workers. Trade union leaders from various organizations joined the demonstration, expressing solidarity and chanting slogans against the new legislation.
