Tue Nov 26 18:21:09 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad Traffic Police Crack Down on Illegal Parking and Encroachments
**Hyderabad, November 26, 2024** – In a major operation to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance public safety, Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a city-wide crackdown on illegal parking and encroachments on Tuesday. The initiative, dubbed “Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments” (ROPE), saw the removal of unauthorized vendors and obstructions from footpaths and roads, particularly along the Tolichowki main road.
Led by Hyderabad’s Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, the operation involved deploying manpower, cranes, and vehicles to reclaim public spaces. A significant aspect of the drive focused on the misuse of sirens and multi-tone horns on vehicles. Following a month-long campaign, authorities seized and subsequently crushed 1,015 sirens and 525 multi-tone horns using a road roller.
Commissioner Anand expressed concern over the lack of cooperation from some local politicians in addressing traffic issues, stating that many roadside vendors, who are often not poor, are paying substantial sums to local groups to occupy public spaces. He emphasized the need for a multi-pronged approach involving citizens, politicians, and various organizations to tackle the city’s traffic woes, noting that Hyderabad’s roads accommodate an estimated 8.8 million vehicles daily.
The ROPE initiative will continue across the city to clear footpaths and restore road space, officials confirmed.
