Tue Nov 26 19:15:10 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad Airport Passenger Traffic Soars, Outpacing Major Indian Cities

**Hyderabad, November 27, 2024** – Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has witnessed a remarkable surge in passenger traffic, exceeding pre-pandemic levels and outperforming other major Indian metropolitan airports. The airport recorded 25 million passengers in FY 2024, a significant recovery from the eight million passengers recorded in FY 2021 following the COVID-19 pandemic. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 45.6%.

October 2024 alone saw nearly 2.5 million passengers, a 22% increase compared to October 2023. This growth was driven by both domestic (22.7% increase) and international (16.3% increase) travel. The airport also handled 17,553 aircraft movements in October, a 19% year-on-year increase, with a peak of 87,000 passengers on October 14th.

According to data from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), RGIA led passenger growth among India’s top five metro cities from April to September 2024, with an 11.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This surpasses Bengaluru (10.1%), Kolkata (9.4%), Delhi (7.4%), Mumbai (5.4%), and Chennai (3.3%).

The airport’s success is attributed to Hyderabad’s strategic location, robust infrastructure, and economic growth. RGIA currently serves 72 domestic and 18 international destinations, with a particularly strong showing in long-haul international travel, especially to the US and UK. Approximately two million passengers travelled to these destinations in 2023-24, many of whom were students and professionals. This surge in international travel further positions Hyderabad as a key hub for international airlines.
