**Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh:** Five doctors from Saifai Medical College perished in a horrific road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway near Tirwa early Wednesday morning. The accident occurred around 3:30 AM when a Scorpio, traveling at approximately 100 km/h, collided with the central divider, overturned multiple times, and was then struck by an oncoming truck.

All five deceased were postgraduate students at Saifai Medical College and were returning to Saifai from a wedding in Lucknow. A sixth occupant of the Scorpio sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. Preliminary investigations by police suggest driver fatigue and excessive speed were contributing factors to the crash. The impact was so severe that the Scorpio was extensively damaged. Police had to use cutting equipment to extricate the victims.

The deceased doctors have been identified as Aniruddha Verma (29), Santosh Kumar Maurya, Arun Kumar, Nardev Gangwar, and Rakesh Kumar. Their bodies have been sent to the mortuary. The injured doctor, identified as Jayveer, has been transferred to Saifai Medical College for treatment.

A friend of one of the deceased doctors, Salil Kumar, recounted how he dropped his friend, Dr. Arun Kumar, off near the Agra-Lucknow Expressway at around 10 PM the previous night. Dr. Arun had called at 2:45 AM to say they were returning and would be at the Tirwa cut in 10-15 minutes. Salil waited for an hour before receiving news of the accident.

The Principal of Saifai Medical College, Dr. C.P. Pal, confirmed the deaths and stated that the college administration has informed the families of the deceased. Police are continuing their investigation. The accident highlights the dangers of high-speed driving on expressways.
