**Lucknow, India** – The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the Uttar Pradesh by-elections, winning six out of nine contested assembly seats. The results, announced today, are being seen as a significant boost for the BJP ahead of the 2025 state assembly elections.
The most surprising win came in the Muslim-majority Kundarki constituency, where BJP’s Ramveer Singh secured a landslide victory with over 100,000 votes. This is a significant upset for the Samajwadi Party (SP), which had considered the seat a stronghold. Other key BJP wins included Ghaziabad, Khair, and Phulpur.
The SP, however, managed to win three seats, including Karhal and Sisamau. The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) also secured one seat.
The by-elections were considered a crucial test for both the BJP and the SP, acting as a “semi-final” before the upcoming assembly polls. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also participated, aiming to demonstrate its electoral strength. The counting process was marked by some controversy, particularly in the Meerapur constituency, where the SP alleged irregularities and demanded a recount.
While the BJP’s performance is seen as a major victory, the SP’s wins offer a counterpoint and demonstrate that the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh remains dynamic. The results will undoubtedly influence political strategies in the run-up to the 2025 state elections.
