**Mumbai, November 22, 2024** – The Bombay High Court continued its hearing on Friday in a trademark infringement case against Patanjali Ayurved Ltd., brought by Mangalam Organics Ltd. Patanjali is appealing a July ruling that fined the company ₹4.5 crore for violating a 2023 court order prohibiting the sale of cone-shaped camphor products that infringed on Mangalam’s trademark.
The court previously found Patanjali guilty of a “wilful and deliberate breach” of the injunction. Mangalam’s lawyer, Hiren Kamod, argued that despite an August 2023 interim order and an unconditional apology from Patanjali director Rajneesh Mishra in July 2024 admitting continued sales, Patanjali continued selling the camphor products until at least June 2024, amounting to ₹49,67,861 in sales. Even after acknowledging that products worth ₹25,94,505 were still with distributors, Mr. Kamod highlighted that products with a March 2024 manufacturing date were still being sold, seven months after the court order.
Patanjali’s lawyers, while admitting past violations, argued that the company had ceased sales. However, the court found their claims inconsistent with evidence presented. The hearing has been adjourned to November 27th.
