**Wayanad, Kerala –** Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has secured a resounding victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election, succeeding her brother Rahul Gandhi as the constituency’s representative. With over 1.9 lakh votes counted, she enjoys a massive lead of over 1.5 lakh votes over her nearest rival, CPI veteran Sathyan Mokeri. BJP candidate Navya Haridas trailed significantly behind in third place.
The by-election was necessitated by Rahul Gandhi’s decision to retain his seat in Rae Bareli after winning both constituencies in the 2024 general elections. This marked Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s electoral debut. Her campaign, actively supported by Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, aimed for a victory margin exceeding 5 lakh votes. Rahul Gandhi notably pledged continued support to Wayanad, jokingly referring to the constituency having “two MPs, one unofficial.” He also highlighted tourism development for the region as a key campaign promise.
The Wayanad results are among those being declared today for by-elections across 15 states, including 48 assembly seats and two parliamentary constituencies. Results for Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections are also being announced concurrently.
