Sat Nov 23 03:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Andhra Pradesh Assembly Committee Elections Underway
AMARAVATI, INDIA – Polling is underway for the election of members to various Andhra Pradesh Assembly committees. The elections are being held for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), the Estimates Committee, and the Committee on Public Undertakings (CPU). Voting began at 9 am and will continue until 2 pm in the Assembly Committee Hall.
While 10 nominations were filed for the 9 MLA slots in the three committees, a poll became necessary. A party needs a minimum of 18 MLAs in the Assembly for one of their members to be elected to any of these committees. Despite only having 11 MLAs, the YSR Congress Party submitted three nominations for each committee.
Given the larger number of opposition coalition MLAs, their victory is widely anticipated. Pulaparthi Anjaneyulu (Jana Sena) is expected to win the PAC chairmanship, Vegulapati Jogi Swara Rao (TDP) for the Estimates Committee, and Koona Ravikumar (TDP) for the CPU chairmanship.
Before voting commenced, a meeting was held in Minister Nara Lokesh’s chamber involving the Chief Whip and other whips. Each whip has been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the voting of 14 MLAs.
