Sat Nov 23 05:53:55 UTC 2024: ## Close Contest in Aurangabad East as MIM Candidate Leads

**Aurangabad, Maharashtra:** The counting of votes for the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections is underway, with the BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leading the overall state results. However, the Aurangabad East constituency is witnessing a tight three-cornered contest.

Initial trends indicate a strong showing by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) opposition alliance across the Marathwada region, but Aurangabad East is proving to be an exception. While BJP’s Atul Save, the sitting MLA, won in 2019, he is currently trailing significantly behind Imtiaz Jaleel of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Congress’s Lahushewale is also contesting.

Early reports suggest Jaleel has a considerable lead, while Save is currently in fourth place, with only 216 votes reported according to initial trends. AIMIM is also reportedly leading in at least two other constituencies. The outcome in Aurangabad East is highly anticipated, given the close race and the significant number of voters supporting Jaleel. The constituency is known for its close contests, adding to the suspense surrounding the final results.
