**Kannur, Kerala – November 23, 2024** – A new ₹57 crore court complex will open in Thalassery, Kannur district on December 26th. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the eight-story building, funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board.
The modern facility consolidates 14 courts under one roof, providing 136 rooms including specialized amenities such as witness restrooms, a breastfeeding center, a bank, post office, canteen, and dedicated facilities for legal professionals, including a library and a refrigerated auditorium for judicial officers. The building boasts a disability-friendly design and incorporates solar energy systems, costing an additional ₹80 lakh.
The Thalassery Court, established in 1802 and serving as the judicial headquarters for Kannur district, will house the Principal Sessions Court, four additional district courts, a family court, a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, a POCSO special court, two assistant sessions courts, the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, and two magistrate courts within the new complex.
A recent review meeting, presided over by District Sessions Judge K.T. Nisar Ahammed and inaugurated by Speaker A.N. Shamseer, was held to prepare for the inauguration. An organizing committee has been formed to oversee the event.
