Fri Nov 22 07:23:25 UTC 2024: ## Iran to Launch Advanced Centrifuges After IAEA Censure

**Tehran, November 22, 2024** – Iran announced Friday it will deploy a new generation of advanced centrifuges in response to a resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) condemning Tehran’s lack of cooperation. The IAEA resolution, backed by Britain, France, Germany, and the United States, cites concerns over Iran’s nuclear program and the presence of uranium particles at undeclared sites.

The resolution, passed with 19 votes in favor and 12 abstentions, calls for Iran to provide credible explanations and a comprehensive report on its nuclear activities by spring 2025. China, Russia, and Burkina Faso opposed the resolution. While IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi recently secured an agreement from Iran to cap its stockpile of near weapons-grade uranium, the new centrifuge deployment represents a significant escalation.

Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons, but its increased enrichment levels and reduced cooperation with the IAEA have fueled international concern. The 2015 nuclear deal, which eased sanctions in exchange for curbs on Iran’s nuclear program, has unraveled since the US withdrawal in 2018. This latest development further complicates efforts to revive the agreement. The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization ordered the deployment of the advanced centrifuges, signaling a hardening of Tehran’s stance.
