**Washington, D.C.** – President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday the nomination of former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to serve as the next U.S. Attorney General. This follows the withdrawal of former Congressman Matt Gaetz from consideration due to facing strong opposition from Republican senators over past investigations.

Trump praised Bondi’s nearly 20-year career as a prosecutor, highlighting her tough stance on violent crime and her work combating opioid abuse in Florida. He stated that Bondi would “refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again.”

Senator Lindsey Graham, a key Republican on the Judiciary Committee, strongly endorsed the nomination, predicting swift Senate confirmation. If confirmed, Bondi would become the third woman to hold the position and the first under a Republican administration.

Bondi, a long-time Trump ally, has a history of supporting the former president, including defending him during his first impeachment trial and promoting his unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud in 2020. The Florida Democratic Party criticized the nomination, referencing Bondi’s efforts to challenge the Affordable Care Act. State party Chair Nikki Fried emphasized Bondi’s role in seeking to dismantle the ACA and remove pre-existing condition protections, warning that a Bondi-led Department of Justice could threaten healthcare access for millions. The Attorney General oversees the Department of Justice and its 115,000 employees.
