**Rawalpindi, Pakistan –** A Rawalpindi accountability court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, in connection with a £190 million corruption case involving the Al-Qadir University Trust. The warrants were issued by Judge Nasir Javed Rana amidst an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities surrounding Khan and his family.
While both Khan and Bibi previously received bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding the case, which stemmed from a settlement with the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), this latest development significantly escalates the situation. Khan appeared before the court today.
The case centers on allegations that Khan and others misappropriated £190 million (approximately PKR 50 billion) sent by the NCA to the Pakistani government, resulting in the alleged acquisition of hundreds of acres of land for the Al-Qadir University Trust. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a corruption reference in 2019, naming Khan, Bibi, and six others.
Separately, Bibi released a video message calling on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters to participate in a planned protest on November 24th, framing it as a crucial, decisive action against the government. She alleged a smear campaign against her family following a visit to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, including accusations of her husband being a “Jewish agent.”
