Sat Nov 23 08:53:37 UTC 2024: ## Tight Race Predicted for Akkalkot Assembly Seat in Upcoming Maharashtra Elections

**Mumbai, India** – The upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections, scheduled for November 20th, are shaping up to be a closely contested battle, particularly in the crucial Akkalkot constituency of Solapur District. The seat, currently held by BJP MLA Sachin Kalyanshetti, is witnessing a fierce contest between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

Kalyanshetti, backed by the Mahayuti (comprising BJP, Shiv Sena-Shinde group, and NCP-Ajit Pawar group), faces a strong challenge from Congress candidate Siddharam Satlingappa Mhetre, supported by the MVA (comprising NCP-Sharad Pawar group, Shiv Sena-UBT group, and Congress). The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has also entered the fray.

The 2019 elections saw Kalyanshetti narrowly defeat Mhetre, securing 119,437 votes to Mhetre’s 82,668. However, with an anticipated anti-incumbency factor, this year’s race is expected to be even tighter. A total of 12 candidates are contesting the seat.

The overall political landscape in Maharashtra reflects a divided legislature. The ruling Mahayuti currently holds 202 seats, while the MVA commands 69. Fifteen seats remain vacant. The outcome of the Akkalkot contest, and the election as a whole, will significantly impact the state’s political trajectory. Results for all 288 assembly seats, including Akkalkot, will be announced on November 23rd.
