Sat Nov 23 10:27:26 UTC 2024: ## Close Race in Mumbai’s Worli: Aditya Thackeray Trails by 600 Votes

**MUMBAI:** A nail-biting finish is underway in Mumbai’s Worli constituency, a traditional Shiv Sena stronghold, where Aaditya Thackeray, son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, is currently trailing by approximately 600 votes. Milind Deora, a former Congress leader who recently joined the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, is currently leading.

The contest has been fiercely contested between the rival Shiv Sena factions led by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde. While Aaditya Thackeray won comfortably in 2019, this election saw a much closer fight due to the Shiv Sena split and the BJP contesting separately after their previous alliance ended. The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, comprising the Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar), and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, faced a challenge from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), whose candidate, Sandeep Deshpande, is believed to have impacted the traditional Marathi vote share that usually goes to the Shiv Sena.

Aaditya Thackeray, who served as Environment and Tourism Minister in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government, leveraged his family name and active presence in the constituency. However, the sympathy vote expected from the Shiv Sena split didn’t materialize in his favour. His opponent, Milind Deora, is a former Congress MP and Union Minister, and son of former Union Minister Murli Deora. The final results are awaited with bated breath.
