**Berlin, Germany** – Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw lauded India’s technological advancements at the News9 Global Summit 2024 in Germany, highlighting the country’s efficient management of the recent Lok Sabha elections. He described the 2024 elections as the largest democratic exercise in human history, involving 968 million voters, over 750 political parties, and more than 1 million polling stations. Despite this massive scale, the election results were declared in a mere five hours.
Vaishnaw attributed this remarkable feat to the effective use of technology, specifically Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Election Commission’s website, which provided live updates, candidate data, vote shares, and party trends. He contrasted India’s approach to the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the government’s focus on investment in infrastructure, both physical and digital, rather than increased consumption. This strategy, he argued, has resulted in a government debt-to-GDP ratio of under 60%, strengthening the Indian economy.
