Sat Nov 23 05:50:00 UTC 2024: ## BJP’s Maha Vikas Aghadi Sweeps Maharashtra Assembly Elections, Fadnavis Frontrunner for CM

**Mumbai, India** – Early trends in the Maharashtra Assembly elections indicate a landslide victory for the BJP-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. With the alliance currently projected to win around 220 seats, BJP alone is leading on approximately 123 seats. This strong showing has placed Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as the leading contender for the Chief Minister’s post.

BJP sources confirm that Fadnavis is the frontrunner following the alliance’s projected two-thirds majority. Senior BJP leaders have been visiting him to offer congratulations and discuss the next steps. Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule was among the first to visit Fadnavis at his residence, a meeting further fueling speculation about Fadnavis’s imminent appointment.

Other prominent BJP leaders, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, and Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar, have also visited Fadnavis. BJP MLC Praveen Darekar expressed his support for Fadnavis as CM, attributing the victory to initiatives like the “Ladki Behan Yojana” and urging the party to surpass 125 seats. He also dismissed comments from Sanjay Raut, urging him to acknowledge the election results.

At the time of this report, the BJP is projected to win 125 seats, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) 56, and NCP (Ajit Pawar) 37. The BJP contested 149 seats, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena 81, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP 59. The opposition MVA alliance, comprising Congress (101 seats contested), Shiv Sena (UBT) (95 seats), and NCP (Sharad Pawar) (86 seats), appears to have been significantly defeated. Voting took place across all 288 constituencies on November 20th.
