**Ticonderoga, NY – November 18, 2024** – Thirty years after William Shatner’s final portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk in *Star Trek: Generations*, the iconic actor has reprised his role in a new short film, “Unification,” released today. The 8-minute film, a collaboration between the Roddenberry Archive, OTOY, and Paramount, is the fourth in the Archive’s “765874” series, blending live-action footage with cutting-edge CGI.

The short film, viewable on the Roddenberry Archive website and the Apple Vision Pro app, features a compelling reunion between Kirk and Spock (played by Lawrence Selleck), bridging multiple decades of Star Trek lore. Other returning stars include Robin Curtis as Saavik, Mahé Thaissa as J.M. Colt, and Gary Lockwood as Gary Mitchell. The film also incorporates Yor, a character from *Star Trek: Discovery*, adding a layer of complexity to the narrative.

Shatner, along with Susan Bay Nimoy (widow of Leonard Nimoy), served as executive producer. OTOY utilized advanced de-aging technology and digital prosthetics to achieve remarkably realistic portrayals of the characters. The visual effects, created using OTOY’s “Octane” rendering software and “LightStage” scanning system, are described by Shatner as having a “mind-bending” effect.

Directed by Carlos Baena and featuring an original score by Michael Giacchino, “Unification” is not merely a technical showcase. It’s a poignant exploration of friendship and loss, offering a unique and emotional sendoff to the iconic Kirk-Spock relationship. The film’s ending, however, remains open to interpretation, prompting considerable fan discussion regarding the nature of Kirk’s presence and the film’s place within established Star Trek canon. The short film’s creators have included elements from across various Star Trek series and films, inviting viewers to connect the dots and engage with its multifaceted storytelling.
