Fri Nov 22 06:45:47 UTC 2024: ## Presidential Visit Causes Major Traffic Gridlock in Hyderabad
**Hyderabad, November 22, 2024** – President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Hyderabad on Friday resulted in significant traffic congestion, particularly around the Cyber Towers junction in Madhapur. The President’s convoy, described by some as excessively large (50-100 vehicles), brought traffic to a standstill during her attendance at the Lokmanthan 2024 inauguration at Shilpa Kala Vedika.
Commuters heading to work experienced delays of several hours, with Google Maps showing the Cyber Towers junction as heavily congested. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration and criticism of the disruption caused by the presidential convoy. Users criticized the “VIP culture” and the associated cost and inconvenience to the public.
The Cyberabad police issued a traffic advisory in advance, warning of expected congestion on several key routes from 9 a.m. to noon. Similar diversions were implemented by Hyderabad traffic police on other major roads throughout the city. Despite the advance warning, the scale of the disruption led to widespread public complaints. The police provided contact information for real-time traffic updates via phone, social media, and WhatsApp.
President Murmu’s visit concluded later in the day, leaving behind a trail of frustrated commuters and renewed debate about the impact of large security convoys on public life.
