Fri Nov 22 11:36:33 UTC 2024: ## Scorpions Stun Hurricanes, Secure Super50 Semifinal Spot

**St. John’s, Antigua –** Jamaica Scorpions secured a dramatic 82-run victory over the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in a rain-affected Regional Super50 match, propelling them into the tournament semifinals. The win, achieved via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, saw the Scorpions top the points table with 53 points.

Pace bowler Marquino Mindley spearheaded the Scorpions’ triumph, claiming a stunning five-wicket haul (5-28) to dismantle the Hurricanes for 182 in 34.3 overs. The Hurricanes were chasing a revised target after the Scorpions posted a challenging 264 for nine in their allotted 43 overs.

Mindley’s devastating spell included the crucial wicket of Kofi James for a duck in the very first over. Further contributions from Jeavor Royal (2-20) and Odean Smith (2-40) stifled the Hurricanes’ batting line-up. While Kadeem Henry (22) and Jewel Andrew (47) provided some resistance, a late collapse triggered by Mindley’s wickets of Raheem Cornwall, Karima Gore (47), Hayden Walsh Jr, and Jeremiah Louis sealed the Hurricanes’ fate.

Earlier, the Scorpions’ innings was anchored by half-centuries from Jermaine Blackwood (54) and Odean Smith (52). A 79-run partnership between Blackwood and John Campbell (42) laid the foundation for a strong total. However, the Hurricanes fought back, taking three quick wickets to briefly stall the Scorpions’ momentum. Smith’s explosive late hitting ensured the Scorpions reached a competitive score despite Walsh Jr’s 3-33.

The victory moves the Scorpions ahead of Trinidad & Tobago Red Force (52 points) and Barbados Pride (43 points) in the standings, while the Hurricanes remain in fourth place with 38 points. Mindley’s match-winning performance solidifies his place as a key player for the Scorpions heading into the semifinals.
