Fri Nov 22 08:55:53 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad to Create First-Ever Bird Atlas

**Hyderabad, India (November 22, 2024)** – Hyderabad is embarking on an ambitious project to create its first-ever bird atlas, a comprehensive map charting the city’s avian biodiversity. The three-year initiative, a collaboration between various birdwatching clubs, individuals, and organizations like WWF-India, will systematically document the distribution and abundance of bird species across Hyderabad, capturing seasonal variations and habitat-specific data.

The project is particularly crucial given Hyderabad’s rapid urbanization and the increasing pressure on its green spaces and wetlands. The atlas will serve as a vital baseline for current bird populations, enabling researchers to track changes in response to urbanization, climate change, and conservation efforts.

Citizen scientists are invited to participate. A training session on bird identification will be held in the first week of December for those with little or no prior experience. The application deadline is November 30th, 2024. Registration can be completed via [https://forms.gle/Ycp83GCXxTqpxmof6](https://forms.gle/Ycp83GCXxTqpxmof6).

Surveys will be conducted in February (winter) and July (summer) to capture both migratory and resident bird populations. The project aims to not only document existing species but also raise public awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and the interconnectedness of urban development and biodiversity. Similar atlases already exist for Pune, Mysore, and Coimbatore.
