**REDMOND, WA – October 26, 2024** – Microsoft announced today that a public preview of Windows 11 will be available on Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets starting in December. This will allow users to access the full capabilities of Windows 11, either from a local PC or via cloud streaming with Windows 365.
Microsoft claims the connection process is incredibly fast, promising a seamless transition to what they describe as a “private, high-quality, large, multi-monitor workstation” experience within the VR headset. The integration will support “Volumetric Apps,” allowing applications to extend into the 3D space, offering users immersive interactions. A demo showcased a user manipulating a 3D model of an Xbox controller within the virtual environment.
Developers will gain access to an API to create plugins for existing and new 3D Windows desktop applications.
