**Panaji, Goa:** India’s public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, has launched its new OTT platform, “Waves,” offering a vast library of classic Doordarshan and Aakashvani programming. The app, available for Android and iOS, aims to provide “clean, family-friendly entertainment,” according to Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Sehgal.

Sehgal, speaking at the International Film Festival of India, highlighted the app’s extensive archive, allowing viewers to revisit beloved shows like *Ramayan*, *Mahabharat*, *Shaktimaan*, *Byomkesh Bakshi*, and Shah Rukh Khan’s early role in *Fauji*. While many classics are available, some, including *Ramayan* and *Mahabharat*, were reportedly not immediately accessible at launch.

“Waves” offers more than just nostalgic programming. The app also features around 40 live channels from various broadcasters, including popular entertainment and news channels like India Today, NDTV India, and Republic TV.

The launch marks a significant step for Prasar Bharati in the burgeoning OTT market. The broadcaster’s archives, including iconic shows that captivated audiences during Doordarshan’s golden age in the 1980s, are now readily accessible to a new generation. The initiative aims to capitalize on the enduring popularity of these shows, many of which experienced renewed viewership during the 2020 lockdown.
