Thu Nov 21 05:23:32 UTC 2024: ## Modi to Address Guyanese Parliament, Marking 14th Foreign Legislature Speech

**Georgetown, Guyana – November 21, 2024** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a special session of the Guyanese Parliament today, marking his 14th address to a foreign legislature. This surpasses the number of similar speeches delivered by any previous Indian Prime Minister, officials stated.

Mr. Modi’s extensive record of addressing foreign parliaments highlights India’s growing global influence. His previous speeches have spanned continents, including addresses to the US Congress (twice), the British Parliament, and legislative bodies in Australia, Fiji, Mauritius, Uganda, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Afghanistan, and the Maldives. In comparison, his predecessor Manmohan Singh addressed foreign parliaments on only seven occasions.

Officials emphasized that Mr. Modi’s 14 addresses represent a significant increase over previous Prime Ministers, with Indira Gandhi addressing four foreign legislatures, Jawaharlal Nehru three, and Rajiv Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee each delivering two such speeches. Morarji Desai and P.V. Narsimha Rao each addressed only one foreign parliament.
