Wed Nov 20 23:30:00 UTC 2024: **Andhra Pradesh CM Expresses Displeasure Over Slow Pace of Investigations**
Vijayawada, November 21, 2024 – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) over the slow progress in several high-profile cases. In a series of late-night meetings with senior police officials over two days, Naidu voiced his concerns about the handling of crucial investigations, including alleged mining scams, a massive ration rice diversion scheme, irregularities in the “Aadudam Andhra” program, and the Madanapalle sub-collector office arson case.
Naidu specifically questioned the ease with which mining baron Venkat Reddy secured bail, the lack of arrests in the liquor scam, and the slow investigation into the alleged misappropriation of millions of rupees from the “Aadudam Andhra” program, a state initiative. He also highlighted the alleged diversion of tonnes of ration rice to African countries, describing it as a large-scale mafia operation. He demanded immediate action against those involved, emphasizing the need to hold those responsible for the five-year-long alleged corruption accountable.
The Chief Minister also expressed concern over the slow progress in the investigation of the Madanapalle sub-collector office arson case, where he stated that the investigation was moving at a snail’s pace despite deploying senior officials to the scene immediately after the incident. He indicated that political interference might be hindering the investigation.
While police officials offered explanations, citing factors such as gathering evidence and using digital forensics, Naidu remained unconvinced. He stressed the need for faster, more efficient investigations, employing advanced technology and removing any political influence to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The CM has indicated that key decisions regarding these investigations will be taken within the next two days.
Additionally, Naidu praised the police for curbing the spread of hateful and abusive content on social media, noting a significant decrease in such posts. However, he also expressed his displeasure with the apparent preferential treatment given to a notorious rowdy-sheeter, Anil Kumar Borugadda, demanding a thorough report on the matter from the DGP.
