Wed Nov 20 14:12:27 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Airport Steps Up Fog Preparedness After Flight Disruptions

**New Delhi, November 20, 2024** – Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has ordered a series of measures to improve passenger experience and safety at Delhi Airport during periods of low visibility caused by fog. The directive follows disruptions on Monday, where bad weather led to 14 flight diversions and numerous delays.

The Minister, chairing a high-level review meeting on fog preparedness, emphasized a passenger-centric approach. Airlines have been instructed to proactively inform passengers of any potential delays or cancellations due to poor visibility, and to cancel flights delayed by more than three hours. Accurate passenger contact information must be collected during booking.

To enhance operational efficiency, the Minister directed that all check-in counters be fully staffed during peak hours. Adherence to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines during delays and cancellations remains paramount, the Ministry stressed.

Delhi Airport’s infrastructure improvements were also highlighted. Three out of four runways are now equipped with CAT III Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), allowing for safe landings even in extremely low visibility. Additional measures include the installation of LED screens displaying real-time visibility updates and an increased deployment of “Follow Me” vehicles to guide aircraft.

Airlines have confirmed their compliance with DGCA guidelines regarding the use of CAT II/III compliant aircraft and pilots at Delhi and other fog-prone airports. The Minister’s actions aim to mitigate future disruptions and ensure a smoother experience for air travelers during the winter season.
