**Chennai, November 21, 2024** – The Madras High Court has stepped in to address concerns over escalating attacks on lawyers in Tamil Nadu. Following a mention of a recent stabbing incident outside a Hosur court, Chief Justice K.R. Shriram suggested a meeting between the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) and Bar leaders to find a solution.

The incident involved a lawyer critically injured in a stabbing allegedly perpetrated by a court clerk on Wednesday. While the Chief Justice acknowledged initial reports suggesting personal enmity as a motive, senior counsel S. Prabakaran, also vice chairman of the Bar Council of India, highlighted a pattern of violent attacks against lawyers over the years. He emphasized the lack of adequate protection for legal professionals and the negative societal impact of these attacks.

Chief Justice Shriram proposed that State Public Prosecutor Hasan Mohamed Jinnah facilitate a meeting between the DGP and Bar leaders, including P.S. Amalraj, chairman of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, who was also present during the court proceedings.
