Wed Nov 20 20:23:19 UTC 2024: ## BJP Accuses Maharashtra Opposition Leaders of Bitcoin Election Funding Scam
**Mumbai, November 20, 2024** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on Maharashtra opposition leaders Supriya Sule and Nana Patole, alleging they illegally used bitcoins to finance election campaigns. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, citing purported audio recordings, claimed the voices matched those of Sule and Patole, adding that an investigation would clarify the matter. Sule dismissed Pawar’s claims as unsubstantiated, while also highlighting alleged cash distribution by BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra further escalated the accusations, involving Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, and urging the Lok Sabha opposition leader to address the allegations. Patra claimed the alleged cryptocurrency fraud, estimated at ₹235 crore, dates back several years and involved funds used in past elections. He dismissed opposition claims of a BJP conspiracy.
Sule has denied the allegations and the authenticity of the audio recordings, filing complaints with the Election Commission and Maharashtra Police. The accusations come amidst ongoing post-election scrutiny in Maharashtra.
