**Shornur, November 21, 2024:** Veteran Malayalam film actor Meghnad passed away this morning at a private hospital in Kozhikode after a two-week battle with a respiratory illness. He was 61. His body was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Shornur this afternoon.
Meghnad, son of renowned actor Balan K. Nair, was known for his memorable villainous and character roles in over 50 films and television serials. He made his film debut in 1983 with P.N. Menon’s *Astram*. Some of his notable films include *Panchagni*, *Uyarangazhil Chamayam*, *Rajadhani*, and *Action Hero Biju*. His final film, *Kooman*, was released in 2022.
Prominent figures from the film and cultural sectors paid their last respects, including former minister A.K. Balan, MLAs P. Mammikutty and Muhammed Muhsin, and actors Siju Wilson, Kottayam Nazeer, and Seema G. Nair. A large number of fans also gathered to bid farewell.
Besides acting, Meghnad was also a passionate farmer. He is survived by his wife, Susmitha, and daughter, Parvati. He was born in Thiruvananthapuram and received his primary education at the Ashan Memorial Association in Chennai. He also held a diploma in Automobile Engineering from Coimbatore.
