Thu Nov 21 04:34:24 UTC 2024: ## Aussie Opener McSweeney Unfazed by Criticism Ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy
**Perth, Nov 18 (Punjab Kesari):** Australian opener Nathan McSweeney has brushed off criticism ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, stating that external opinions won’t alter his approach. The 25-year-old expressed confidence in his ability to perform against India’s formidable pace attack, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna.
Despite the challenge of transitioning from batting at number three in domestic cricket to opening, McSweeney feels prepared. He faced a rigorous net session on Monday, confronting the pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood.
“I know what I need to work on,” McSweeney said. “I feel very capable of doing the work, and I think I’m batting as well as I ever have. Hopefully, I can go out there and execute that on Friday. There’s been a lot of criticism, but I feel like that doesn’t change my preparation. I’ve got a lot of supporters who I’m proud to play for. So many families have made sacrifices to get me where I am today, and so many coaches who have bowled so many balls at me. Hopefully, I can go out there and play really well and make them proud.”
Team-mate Travis Head voiced his support, advising McSweeney to continue his current approach. “He’s a great character and he’s fitted in seamlessly,” Head commented. “It can be a bit overwhelming sometimes when it’s your first experience, but there’s excitement there. If he just does what he’s been doing, he’ll fit in perfectly. It takes time for anyone to start their career. He’s got the support in the change room, and I hope he’s got the support outside of it as well. He deserves his selection, and it’s an exciting few weeks for him.”
The first Test between India and Australia begins in Perth on November 22nd.
